Watch: The Trailer for 'The Star' Is Very Insistant on Its Voice Actors


We've long been wondering what to make of Sony Pictures Animation's The Star (formerly The Lamb). Was it going to be a deep, adult-oriented profound take on the nativity story; or rather a more child-friendly, regular CGI animal-talking film. Matt Groening's New Animated Show Will Air on Netflix


Deadline reports that Matt Groening is expected to launch a new animated series on Netflix; after The Simpsons and Futurama, Groening came up with a fantasy setting. The show will be titled Disenchantment and will be set in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland.

Watch: 'The LEGO Ninjago Movie' Has a New Trailer


The third film in the LEGO moie universe unveils itself a bit more with a brand new trailer. The LEGO Ninjago Movie, directed by Charlie Bean and Paul Fisher seems like another funny flick that leans on the meta humor. It will be released on 22 September in the US / 13 October in the UK. Watch: The Opening Scene from 'The Emoji Movie'


Sony Animation just released a clip from The Emoji Movie, which is apparently the opening scene of the film. The scene includes a one-minute long tracking shot where Gene (the main character, voiced by T.J. Miller) introduces us to the many emoji people in Textopolis. Watch the clip below.

French Animation, Chapitre 9 - The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales

What is it?
While the United States are currently enjoying Cars 3, Pixar's latest outing will only open in August in France. Instead, French animation fans are treated with a new feature film by Benjamin Renner, one of the directors of the critically acclaimed Ernest & Celestine.
This time, Renner adapted one of his own comic books, Le Grand Méchant Renard, which was published in 2015 and for which he took his inspiration from French literature classic La Fontaine's Fables.
Though he was only a director on Ernest & Celestine, he co-wrote this one with Jean Regnaud and co-directed with Patrick Imbert.

Initially, Olaf's Frozen Adventure was supposed to debut on ABC as a Christmas special, but it looks like the short will now be shown with Pixar's Coco when the film reaches US theaters on 22 November; you can watch a trailer for Olaf's Frozen Adventure below.

Watch: A Trailer for DC's 'Batman and Harley Quinn'


Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the next DC Universe original movie: Batman and Harley Quinn. The trailer is quite reminiscent of Batman: The Animated Series, the TV show that aired in the 90's, and it's not without reason: Bruce Timm - the man behind the series - is a writer and producer here. Watch: 'The Emoji Movie' Trailer Focuses on the Meh


Sony is releasing The Emoji Movie later this year (28 July in the US and 4 August in the UK), and the first full trailer for it can be seen after the break. Fair warning: the jokes are predictable and not at a high standard, and it all seems like an attempt at remaking Wreck-It Ralph, The LEGO Movie and Inside Out, but without the heart that those three films had. Then again, it's just a trailer.

Watch: The First Teaser for Cartoon Saloon's 'The Breadwinner'


The Breadwinner is the third feature film from Cartoon Saloon, the studio that produced Oscar nominees The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea. It's also the first film from Cartoon Saloon not being directed by Tomm Moore, as Nora Twomey will be the sole director on this film (she was co-director on Kells). Unikitty from 'The LEGO Movie' Will Have Her Own TV Show


Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network are joining forces to produce a TV series based on one of the characters from The LEGO Movie; the show will be called Unikitty! and will feature Princess Unikitty, - obviously - who was the always positive ruler of Cloud Cuckoo Land in the 2014 feature film.

Watch: A Trailer for 'Big Bad Fox' by one of the 'Ernest and Celestine' Directors


Benjamin Renner (one of the directors behind the great Ernest & Celestine) is directing Le Grand Méchant Renard - Big Bad Wolf in English (along with Patrick Imbert, animation director on Ernest & Celestine and April and the Twisted World).
Big Bad Wolf is a traditionally animated film based on Renner's comic book of the same name, which was released in 2015.

Disney and LucasFilm Are Launching 'Star Wars Forces of Destiny'


Forces of Destiny is a multi-part campaign based on the heroines of the Star Wars universe. It will introduce a new line of toys, books and a new animated TV series. The episodes will be very short (2-3 minutes), and tell key moments in the lives of Leia, Jyn Erso, Rey and more female characters of the extended saga.

Watch: 'Dante's Lunch', a New Pixar Short set in the 'Coco' Universe


Usually, the shorts based on Pixar feature films arrive after the movie itself; but the Emeryville studio apparently decided to shake things up with Coco: a few months before the release of the Lee Unkrich film, Yahoo Movies got an exclusive short called Dante's Lunch, starring Dante, the hairless dog that appeared in the Coco teaser trailer. Taika Waititi and Mark Gustafson Will Direct 'Bubbles'


Deadline reports that Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, A113Animation Award winner Hunt for the Wilderpeople, the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok…) and Mark Gustafson (co-directing the upcoming Pinocchio with Guillermo del Toro) will helm Bubbles, a stop motion film about Michael Jackson's chimpanzee.

Back in 2014, when The LEGO Movie hadn't been released, the LEGO cinematic universe was nothing, and nobody expected the film to be great - or do great at the box office. Yet here we here, three years later, and pretty much everyone is hyped for The LEGO Batman Movie. The trailers have been hilarious and we were expecting a very funny film. Was the hype justified? The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Illumination Entertainment and Universal are so happy with the Sing critical and box-office success that a sequel is already planned. Sing 2 is scheduled for a 25 December, 2020 opening.

Watch: Here's A New Trailer for 'Tangled: Before Ever After'


Tangled: Before Ever After is both a TV Movie and a series. Both will air on Disney Channel later this year: the movie will launch the series based on the 2010 WDAS' classic Tangled. Both Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will reprise their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively, while Alan Menken will write new songs. The main difference between the feature film and this TV version is the transition from CGI to traditional animation. Watch the new trailer below.

The 6th A113Animation Awards Nominations


Welcome to the 6th edition of the A113Animation Awards! We've got a good one for you this year, considering the amount of amazing animated films that have been released in the past 12 months. 2016 is arguably the best year for animation since 2012, and the choices ahead of us are going to be quite tough.

The winners will be picked by me (Damien), while William (our Founder/Editor-in-Chief) and Munir (writer and WDAS specialist) will each choose their favourite movie of the year in the Staff Picks category; you, dear A113Animation readers, will also be allowed to award one of the trophies (The People's Favourite Animated Film Award) through the poll below.

The films eligible for an Award must have been released in the UK in 2016. The Winners will be announced on Saturday 14th January. Without further ado and in alphabetical order by film, here are the 6th A113Animation Awards Nominations:
