The 5th A113Animation Awards Results

There were quite a few good animated films in 2015 - some excellent even; but it seems like one in particular was above average. Without further ado, here are our picks for the 5th edition of the A113Animation Awards (the winners are in gold, and there is a breakdown of the results at the bottom of the post)!

This New 'The Secret Life of Pets' Trailer Gives Us a Better Idea of the Plot

Not long ago we got our first full The Secret Life of Pets trailer (which was more of an extended teaser about Snowball), but now Illumination Entertainment is giving us a 3-minute trailer that shows us more of the film's plot and its furry/feathered characters. Watch it after the break.

This Trailer for DreamWorks' 'Trolls' is Really a Teaser

Do not get fooled by the title of this YouTube video. What DreamWorks just released is merely a teaser for Trolls, a film based on the wildly-coloured-hair toys that is set for a November release. Watch it below.

Watch: A Mesmerizing Trailer for 'Kubo and the Two Strings'

"If you must blink, do it now" says the latest trailer for LAIKA's Kubo and the Two Strings. We believe that's a good advice, as this new promotional video looks so beautiful it would be a shame to miss one frame of it. Watch it below.

'Asterix: The Land of the Gods' is Getting a Sequel

Asterix: The Land of the Gods was released in France in 2014, and is soon opening theatrically in the UK (1st April, 2016), where it will be known as Asterix and Obelix: The Mansion of the Gods. At A113Animation, we enjoyed that film a lot, so we were pretty stoked when we learned this morning that a sequel was on its way.

Deadline reports that Sony hired T.J. Fixman to write the Popeye movie. The 5th A113Animation Awards Nominations

After one year off, the A113Animation Awards are back! These are our 5th Awards, and we are following the same formula established in the previous years; a few things have changed, though: we're introducing a Best Writing Award, and we've let go of the Ben Kerfoot Award.
Unlike for the past editions, William won't be picking the winners; I (Damien) will, according to my personal taste and based on the films I've seen. Of course William will also choose his favourite 2015 animated film, as will Munir.
The winners will be announced on Saturday 30th January.

Matt Groening is Working on a New Animated Series for Netflix

The Hollywood Reporter informs us that Matt Groening, the creator of the massively popular TV show The Simpsons and not-as-popular-but-still-beloved Futurama is working on a new animated series for Netflix.

This is pretty much everything we know so far, as Netflix declined to comment on the news/rumour. Still according to THR, it would appear the deal between Groening and the streaming service currently consists of two seasons (for a total of 20 episodes).

Obviously we can't wait to learn more about the project, because if this new show is half as good as the two previous Matt Groening series, we're in for a treat.

Review: 'The Boy and the Beast' is the First Great 2016 Animated Feature

Sometimes living in France is a good thing; while the apparently catastrophic Norm of the North was released this weekend in the United States, French cinemas got another family film instead: The Boy and the Beast. The new Mamoru Hosoda movie was a hit last summer in Japan, and it just opened in France this week. It will arrive in the US soon (12th February), yet there is still no official date for the UK, but hopefully it will open in 2016 as well.
So yes, The Boy and the Beast is indeed better than Norm of the North appears to be. Read the review below to find out why.
