Mega Man, the blue robot and titular character of a huge video-game franchise will be the star of a new animated TV series. The show will arrive in 2017, for the 30th anniversary of the character. More below.
Deadline reports that Dentsu Entertainment USA and Man of Action (Ben 10) will join forces to develop a 26-episode series based on the Capcom video-game series. Dentsu will be in charge of broadcasting and licensing rights, while Man of Action will produce the TV show.
This isn't the first time Mega Man is adapted for television: three episodes of a Japanese anime were released in 1993, and two seasons of an American-friendly TV series were produced betwen 1994 and 1995.
Here's what Duncan Rouleau, one of the Ben 10 creators, had to say to The Hollywood Reporter about Mega Man's TV history and its new iteration:
The 1990s Mega Man TV series was cool and different than other series targeted at kids during that time. It featured great action, but also brought the laughs. Mega Man is a character that is even more relevant for today’s kids and we are really looking forward to creating something new that still respects the long tradition of the character. No network has picked up the TV show yet.
