A new featurette (via USA Today) for Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 introduces us to some of the many punnily-named food-animals - or, foodimals - that populate the succulent sequel.
USA Today's video player is a little less than ideal, so the video quality fluctuates in resolution, but you can check it out for yourself either way, embedded above. As well as introducing us to creatures like shrimpanzees, cheespiders, tacodiles and more, USA Today also grabbed a few words from directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn (who voice Barry the Strawberry and the shrimpanzees respectively) about the film.
Cloudy 2 picks up where the first film left off... almost literally: "The sequel to the 2009 film picks up 60 seconds later, with quirky master inventor Chester V (Will Forte) inviting Flint to work for him in California. Unfortunately, Flint and Sam find out that their island's been overrun and return to a plethora of creatures that defy imagination," says USA Today's coverage.
On the plethora of puns present in the film, Cameron laughs that it was "almost too easy," adding that he and Pearn thought of as many as 200 foodimal names, although they cut things like "Octopudding. There was a Spamwhale. Guerillacheese sandwiches."
|"If this was Jurassic Park, the cheesespider would be a raptor,"|
says Bill Hader, who voices Flint Lockwood in the film.
Head over to the USA Today post to hear the directors and voice cast members like Bill Hader and Anna Faris talk about the foodimals and comparisons between the film and Jurassic Park... I'd imagine this film will be slightly lighter.
"Food storms were one thing. In the animated sequel 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2' (out Sept. 27 [in the US, and 25th October in the UK]), food-animal hybrids known as "foodimals'' threaten the island of Swallow Falls, and Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) are back to save the day."
