Following the giant success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel knows audiences love a bit of superhero-action in their lives. As such, ABC have picked up a new TV series that fits into this world called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
The show is developed by everyone's favourite fanboy, Joss Whedon, and stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson - who, despite being killed by Loki and fuelling The Avengers to kick butt, is still alive. Whedon, at the moment, is not writing or directing any episodes beyond the pilot, but his brother, Jed Whedon, and sister-in-law, Maurissa Tancharoen, are part of the team along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will see Coulson bring together a small team of highly trained individuals, who will investigate new and unknown threats to earth. From Empire Online, we know that that team will consist of "Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius biochemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Back in January, we found out that S.H.I.E.L.D. will take place "after The Avengers". However, we aren't too sure how it'll fit in with the MCU just yet - and are clueless as to how they'll convincingly revive Coulson.
The footage so far looks promising, with lots of action and fight scenes, it definitely seems to be following the example set by Marvel's films. Though the budget will be a lot less than The Avengers, it still looks like the show will be doing its best for fans everywhere.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on the Disney-owned ABC in September.
