Fox and Blue Sky Studios have released the first full-length trailer for their forthcoming release, Epic. Based on the book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by Moonbot Studios' William Joyce (director of The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore; author of the source material for Meet the Robinsons and Rise of the Guardians), Epic will be Blue Sky's eighth feature film. We got a teaser for the film back in June of last year.
Downsides: Sassy slugs, some kind of generic character designs, and the love-interest appears to be a pint-sized Flynn Rider. Upsides: Beautiful, impressive Avatar meets A Bug's Life-esque world, an intense-looking villain (excitingly voiced by the brilliant Christoph Waltz), and some epic action.
I know a lot of people rag on Blue Sky (admittedly, Ice Age does need put to sleep at this point), but they've created some really great films and - pop-cast and cheesy jokes aside - Epic looks like it has all the right elements to be their best yet. The studio also have a sequel to 2011's Rio and an adaptation of Charles Schulz' Peanuts comic strip in the works.
Epic is directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age), with music by Danny Elfman, and features the voices of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz and Beyoncé; it's released on 24th May.
Blue Sky's newly-added Fox-stablemate, DreamWorks, revealed the teaser poster for their summer release, Turbo, today too; check it out here.
