A113

Some familiar faces outside the famous CalArts room.

Obviously, the blog is largely based around the famous 4 letter code, A113, the room number on a room at CalArts (the famous animation school set up by Walt Disney), where oh so many famous animation legends have walked out of - John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Tim Burton etc... So I thought it would be a good idea to compile a huge list of all of the uses of the code I can find, the blog is named after it after all! Feel free to comment and let me know of any more you've found.

Mater and the Ghost Light (registration plate, left), Cars (headlights, right)

The Princess and The Frog (train)

Pixar mash-up (left - right, starting on the top row): Toy Story (registration plate), Finding Nemo (camera code), WALL E (code on Auto), A Bug's Life (serial code on cereal box wall), Ratatouille (code on Git the Lab Rat's ear), Cars (as above)

Lilo & Stitch (registration plate)

The Incredibles (Mr. Incredibles' cell number, very cryptic)

American Dad (registration plate)

The Simpsons (Krusty's prisoner number) - note that this episode, "Krusty Gets Busted", was one of a few directed by eventual Incredibles director and CalArts alum, Brad Bird.

Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers (registration plate)

Up (courtroom number)

As I said, feel free to let me know if you find any more!

UPDATED

Brad Bird's The Iron Giant (registration plate. Well... most of it)

Marvel's The Avengers (top-left corner of the news coverage at the end of the film)

Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (Agent Hanaway's specialised ring, left, and a registration plate, right)

Terminator Salvation (login override password)

Brave (in Roman numerals above the door)

Do the Bartman (Bart's prisoner number) - A Simpsons music video, also directed by Brad Bird, who it seems thinks A113 makes a great prisoner ID. Thanks to reader Tre.

Cars Land - As in Cars, the code appears on Mater's rear registration plate, this time at Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. Thanks to Pixar News.

The code also features three times (once audibly) in Brad Bird's live-action debut, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (as well as Pixarian Teddy Newton lending his voice to a scene), Disney's Meet the Robinsons, Planet 51 and even in live-action epics, such as Terminator Salvation, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Marvel's The Avengers! We'll add them as we find them, but if you happen to have a screenshot of any of these (or other) references, please email them to us at contact@a113animation.com!

  2. Don't forget the music video for The Simpsons 'Do The Bartman' when Bart's prisoner number is A-113. The music video itself was directed by Brad Bird :)
